Englishman Fisher shoots his way to the top

Oliver Fisher Barely had he been at the top of the Leaderboard, after overtaking Kenya’s Ali Kimani, Frenchman Charles-Eduardo Russo was unable to maintain his lead on Day Three of this year’s Kenya Open Golf Championship at Muthaiga Golf Club.

Leading with 7 under par, Russo looked destined to end the day as the overnight leader but Englishman Oliver Fisher, who had a great day on Day One before dropping on Day Two, clawed his way to the top with a classic 8 under par 68 at the end of Day Three.

Fisher who played alongside Kimani who finished Day Three with a disappointing -2 under par 76 described the Kenyan as a great player who was unfortunate to drop down the Leaderboard on Day Three.

“Kimani is a very good player and I enjoyed playing alongside him. If it weren’t for some mistakes which he made he could still be among the top,” said Fisher.

He attributed his resurgence on Day Three to taking the game as it came and keeping his cool all through the course which he described as fast and clear compared to the first two days of the tournament.

Fisher said, as the tournament which comes to a close tomorrow, he intends to maintain his composure and play the same game he played on Day Three since changing tactics at this crucial stage is not the best.

He said the greens are good and the drive is tough but he intends to ensure that he approaches 13th, 14th and 15th holes with a lot of caution on the last day.
